Ellie Phipps Price took over the stewardship of the Durell vineyard from Ed Durell in 1998, and she and husband (and Durell Vineyard GM) Chris Towt launched Dunstan together in 2005 when they re-claimed the famed 8.5 acre Ranch House Block. They are, and will always be, growers and stewards of this famed property. In re-claiming the Ranch House Block for their label Dunstan they have embarked to make a small amount of wine that showcases the brilliance of this hallowed Sonoma vineyard.
Over the years, virtually every who’s who of California Chardonnay and Pinot Noir winemaking has come calling, looking for fruit from Durell. As its growers, Ellie and Chris have been incredibly fortunate to build so many incredible relationships with such great artists. One artist in particular is a dear friend, as well as a gifted craftsman, and in 2010 Ellie and Chris asked Kenneth Juhasz (famed for his own label Auteur) to help them craft the wines for Dunstan.
