At our barn you can still read the inscription “Valentin Tauzher” from 1822, which shows that someone with that name lived on the farm at that time. Gradually the German surname Tauzher transformed into Slovene Tavčar. Today there are 18 families with that name in the village. Since almost all of us deal with winemaking, I have decided to introduce myself with the new brand Tauzher from this year on. I have also taken this decision in the memory of being descendants from German immigrants. My ancestors have been working with the viticulture and wine production in this part of the Karst for hundreds of years, which is still recorded in the plots and on preserved maps which are 100 years old of the area. They have also cultivated other crops which enabled them to survive throughout the year. I took over the farm Vlkovo in 1990. That’s when I gave up producing other crops and shifted only in Viticulture and Enology. At the very best locations under the village Kreplje I planted another 5000 vines. So today we have a total of 7000 plants of five varieties of grapes (Teran, Vitovska grganja, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malvasia ), which cover about 2 hectares of land. This is as much as our family can manage according to the method and idea to produce quality wine grapes in the most natural way.
