Around 2008 the name Tokai (Tokaj) was officially banned from wine labels exported from Slovenia and Italy due to Hungarian winemakers’ claim on the official name of the grape and wine Tokai/Tokaj.
Since then, some winemakers in Italy and Slovenia have decided to protest the Hungarian claim on Tokaj and instead spell it backwards as “Jakot”.
