Vítor worked abroad and subsequently in a cellar-hotel in Portugal that produced modern, new-world style wines when he decided to try to make his own wine.
“I was in the lab with winemaker as he was choosing enology products and I said:
– Hey man, don’t forget the grapes, ok?
We had a laugh and he justified that in Alentejo the grapes were not up to par and he had to use it all when I said:
– We will do a wine with none of that. You’ll be amazed.
In 2010 I purchased some grapes from a very special couple of vineyards and on-the-phone with Dirk, debuted in winemaking. Two barrels of each. Both red and white.”
In 2014 Rita Ferreira became part of Vítor’s life and also his partner in the wine business. He had opened a restaurant called Claro near Lisbon in 2012, but by the end of 2016 Vítor and Rita decided to commit 100% to the wine business.
“We are now a new family in the area. Neither of us had any ancesters in agriculture or anything. Indeed a new family is growing.”
